Carter County and Elizabethton are surrounded by the natural beauty of the Cherokee National Forest, Appalachian Trail, the Overmountain Victory Trail, and the Watauga Lake giving the area a description of “Tennessee’s Mountain Playground.”
The Watauga River and Doe River converge in the City of Elizabethton and run along side the historic Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area. It doesn’t matter what recreational activity you are looking for, chances are it is here in Carter County. Rafting, fishing, sailing, kayaking, white water rafting, and hiking are all available for outdoor activities in many locations around the county.
Friendly people welcome visitors into the area to witness the beauty that makes everyone here call Elizabethton and Carter County home. If you stay long enough, you will be tempted to call the area home too.
