New River Hardwoods Brings New Jobs to Carter County
Elizabethton Star – May 14, 2017
I am delighted to share with you that New River Hardwoods is expanding their operation in Carter County. New River Hardwoods is investing $2,000,000 to convert their Roan Mountain Log Yard operation into a new Saw Mill with the installation of new modern high tech equipment. Carter County will see 17 new jobs at the facility with an additional 15 to 20 new indirect jobs from the transportation and logging industries to support the new Saw Mill.
President H. Wayne Law and Vice President of Operations David Bailey want the citizens of Carter County to know that they want to help Carter County. They want to provide good jobs and they want to expand their company into a business that Carter County will be proud of. Wayne and David shared that New River Hardwoods offers its employees good benefits and retirement plans. They will be looking to hire people from Carter County in management and administration, mill operators and custodial staff.
“Founded in 1991, New River Hardwoods operates a modern hi-tech mill, lumber and log yards, dry kilns and secondary manufacturing facility located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains at Mountain City, Tennessee. Shipping a wide range of high quality hardwood lumber products to customers around the world, the company takes pride in its utilization of the timber resource, nothing is wasted, as the bark is converted to landscape mulch, the sawdust is used as boiler fuel to fire the kilns, and the chips are used to make paper products by our customers.” New River Hardwoods sells its products primarily to flooring manufacturing companies and wholesalers. However, they also sell their products to the local community and hobbyists. They never turn anyone away who wants to buy their products even direct from the mill.”
New River Hardwoods plans to officially start their new Carter County Roan Mountain Saw Mill operation, located at 136 Miller Hollow Road in Roan Mountain, in mid-September 2017. They will be advertising the new positions between now and then to bring their new workforce online to be ready to start operations in September. The job openings will be posted on their new website located at http://www.newriverhardwoods.com/ .
On behalf of Carter County, I would like to thank New River Hardwoods for believing in our County and making this tremendous investment that will provide new jobs that our citizens so desperately need. Carter County government will do everything it can to support New River Hardwoods with its expansion needs and looks forward to partnering with Mr. Law and Mr. Bailey to help them continue to grow their operation for many years to come.
