Maker of Cub Cadet to Create 200 Jobs, Expand in Weakley County

Weakley County’s largest employer, MTD Products, announced last week it would invest $10 million to expand its production in Martin.

MTD, a leading manufacturer of residential and commercial outdoor power equipment under brands such as Cub Cadet and Troy-Bilt, plans to create 200 jobs in Weakley County. More here on MTD’s expansion plans in Northwest Tennessee.

Haslam, Rolfe Announce 60 ThreeStar Grant Recipients

Gov. Bill Haslam and TNECD Commissioner Bob Rolfe last week announced the 60 Tennessee counties that will receive ThreeStar Grants. The grants will be used for a variety of local programs addressing economic development, education and workforce development, public safety, health and efficient government.

In total, TNECD awarded $955,000 in this round of the ThreeStar Grant program. For a full list of this year’s ThreeStart grant recipients, click here.

“Remastered” Series: Lodge Cast Iron

For five generations and 150 years, Lodge Cast Iron has brought Southern food tradition to the world.
TNECD’s new, original mini-series,”Remastered,” continued this week on RFD-TV, featuring Marion County’s Lodge Cast Iron. See a shortened version of last week’s episode above, which follows the leadership transition from longtime Lodge CEO Bob Kellerman to Henry Lodge and the grand opening of the company’s new foundry in South Pittsburg.

Tennessee’s Jobless Rate Continues Historic Run, 13,000 Jobs Added in June

Tennessee’s jobless rate held steady at 3.5 percent in June, continuing more than a year of historically low unemployment. The unemployment rate in Tennessee has been at or below 4 percent since April 2017.

Employers added about 13,000 jobs in June 2018. More details here on the continued strength of Tennessee’s economy.

“We have made tremendous progress over the last eight years by investing in Tennesseans through workforce development initiatives, creating pathways to higher education and fostering an economic environment where businesses can thrive and grow, and I know Tennessee will to lead in job creation,” Gov. Bill Haslam said.

Mueller Water Products Unveils Nearly 100-Job Expansion in Chattanooga

Mueller Water Products announced last week it would expand its operations in Chattanooga and create 96 new jobs. Mueller, a water distribution products manufacturer, is investing in its domestic manufacturing capabilities and introducing additive manufacturing technologies to its foundries.
