Carter County Election Commission to provide live election results on website
For the first time ever, the Carter County Election Commission will be providing live results updates through its website as the precincts begin reporting in on November 6.
“This is something we have wanted to do for a long time,” said Carter County Administrator of Elections Tracy Harris. “We are pleased we are now able to offer this service to our citizens this year.”
Those who are interested in following the results in Carter County can visit the Election Commission’s website at www.cartercountytn.gov/election-office and click on the link for “Live Election Results.” Election officials will be entering results as the precinct totals are available and the web page will update automatically every few minutes.
Each of the major races will be tracked and website visitors can click through the different tabs on the results page to track the races they are interested in.
Interest in the Nov. 6 mid-term elections has been high, according to Harris, with Carter County seeing a record number of residents participating in early voting. When the early voting polls closed on Nov. 1, a total of 9,722 Carter Countians had cast their ballots. That number is more than double the early voting turnout for the mid-term elections in 2014 when 4,196 Carter Countians cast their ballots early.
When the Early Voting polls closed on Thursday, election officials secured the vote tally cards from the machines in lockbox. After the polls close on Election Day, those tally cards will be processed so the votes cast during early voting can be tallied.
Residents of Carter County will cast their votes for a number of local, state, and federal races. At the state level, voters will be casting ballots for representatives to the Tennessee General Assembly as well as the Tennessee Governor. On the federal side, voters will be choosing a new U.S. Senator as well as casting ballots for their member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Residents who live in the cities of Elizabethton and Watauga will be voting in a variety of municipal races.
Residents of Carter County’s 4th District – which includes the Courthouse, East Side, National Guard Armory, and Siam Precincts – will be voting to fill an unexpired term on the Carter County Board of Education.
Election Day will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Polls will be open that day from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Voters are reminded they need to bring their state or federal government issued photo identification in order to participate in voting.
