Parks & Rec

Carter County is blessed with spectacular scenery and natural beauty, great history and wonderful people. It’s an outdoorsman’s paradise with something for everyone in the whole family. Take a relaxing ride on the Tweetsie Trail, hike some of the most beautiful sections of the Appalachian Trail, search for over 280 species of birds, fish for trophy trout, or bike quiet back roads and world-class climbs. Follow in the footsteps of Daniel Boone, blazing trails to the west, the Overmountain Men on their fateful trek to the turning point of the American Revolution at King’s Mountain, and John Sevier as he rescues his “Bonnie Kate” from an attack by the Cherokee. Visit the oldest frame house west of the Appalachians, Elizabethton’s famous covered bridge, and Sabine Hill, birthplace of the Taylor brothers – both governors of Tennessee, one a Republican, the other a Democrat!
